To keep themselves fit and amused whilst a combination of bad weather and Covid restrictions prevent rowing, Members of Bridport Gig Rowing Club have joined the Alzheimer’s Research UK ‘Rowing for Research’ challenge. The challenge invites rowers to clock up the kilometres on rowing machines whilst securing sponsorship to raise money to fund life-changing dementia research, and supporting a cause close to many of our hearts.
The challenge began on 1 October, and was due to finish on 31 December, however has been extended to 28 February to celebrate the incredible Frank Rothwell, who at 70 years old will be rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, solo, starting on 12 December. Frank’s goal is to raise an incredible £1 million for dementia research!
The Bridport Gig Rowing Club rowing team are David Thomas, Carol Marsh, Catriona McPhee, Helen Wrixon, Martin Huxter, David Lohfink and John Caswell, who between them have already rowed over 1200 kilometres and raised over £2,000! The whole club are supporting the challenge by sponsoring the rowers and sharing the link to encourage a few more pennies to ease their aches and pains.
